Abstract

In modern practice there are several methods of fruit protection against scald. Fruit is treated with antioxidants (DFA), the inhibitor of ethylene biosynthesis (1-MCP), stored in ultra low oxygen (ULO) atmosphere, dynamic atmosphere (DA). The combination of various methods of storage (OA, ULO, DA) and 1-MCP treatment is also used. However this problem has not been solved in several cvs. DPA fruit treatment blocks farnesene oxidation. 1-MCP treatment provides inhibition of synthesis of ethylene, farnesene and products of its oxidation. Advanced methods of fruit storage in ultra low oxygen atmosphere (ULO, DA) allow inhibition of ethylene accumulation. The combination of post harvest 1-MCP fruit treatment and various methods of storage provides levelling their disadvantages and increasing the efficiency. Farnesene absorbtion in the storage atmosphere allows the development of a new non-chemical method of fruit protection against scald.
