Scientific providing the viniculture and wine-making in the Republic of Crimea

The national scientific research institute of grape and wine “Magarach” - one of first branchial institutes, has been founded in 1828 within the system of Imperial Nikiski botanical garden. In 1840 it was drawn into experimental grape-wine establishment “Magarach”. Renaming has occurred in1931 to Crimea zonal experimental station of the viniculture and wine-making, in 1936 to All-Union scientific research station of the wine-making industry “Magarach”, in 1940 to All-Union scientific research institute of the viniculture and wine-making “Magarach” Since that time the institute has become the leading scientific center of the branch in the Soviet Union, organizing many branches on its basis. Since 1960 the All-Union scientific research institute of the viniculture and wine-making “Magarach” has been approved as the head institute of the SSSR in the viniculture and in 1964 - as the head institute of the SSSR in the field of wine-making. After the SSSR collapse, in 1992 the institute joined the system of Ukraineacademy of agrarian sciences as the Institute of grape and wine “Magarach”. In 2005 that branchial institute, the only one in Ukraine, was given the status ‘national one’ - National institute of grape and wine “Magarach”. The scientists-plant breeders of the institute during many years were creating new grape varieties, which combine high cropping power and good quality with resistance to diseases and pests, the scientists-wine makers have laid the bases of technologies for producing unique strong and dessert wines. The article presents short analyzing the modern state of the viniculture and wine-making in the Republicof Crimea, stating the main problems available in front of the institute and ways of their resolving.
